This year is my first time fasting during ramadhan in CFS IIUM. I should admit that it is actually quite interesting to fulfil this obligation here. As we always heard before, during ramadhan , some mosques and maybe some organisations would like to sponsor for iftor (breaking fast). So did here. But, what I think is quite interesting here is that (maybe tempat lain ada juga la), first, during the tarawikh, students are selectively invited to lead the solah. Unlike other places, quite a number of students here are among DQ (DARUL QURAN) students. So, their memorization on the Holy Quran is much stronger. Plus, at Masjid Kolej Islam Malaya here, I found a unique thinking of the mosque organisation. As we know, some may perform 20 rakaah and some maybe 8. So, after the 8 rakaah, that some may want to leave the mosque. It is quite mesmerizing to find that the mosque organisation had provided a path for them. After the 8 rakaah, the imam will stop for a while to allow the jemaah who wanted to leave the mosque to do so. I think it is a quite brilliant idea for doing that as it reduces the crowd-ness of the mosque plus the jemaah will not kacau the other to perform ibadah.
Secondly, for us IIUM students, it is our time to reduce as much as we can the expenditure. Haha... yes... it is true. In my calculation (ceh...), we can reduce “the wasting of money” up to 85%. Mana x nyer, hari2 buka kat masjid. My senior told me that the masjid is “masjid orang kaya”. Every day during Ramadhan, there must be a person who wants to sponsor the iftor. Usually, they are among the datuks and datins... it is good actually to do charity during Ramadhan. Hihi...
Last but not least, at other places (maybe), weekend in Ramadhan is the time for the people to balas dendam or qada’ their sleeping hour throughout the week. We can find the people usually to start sleeping after the subuh prayer and maybe wake up at 10 or maybe at zuhur. But, it is different here. During the weekend, many student societies want to have their own event as to compensate the spare time students have. Ceramah, ta’alim, teknik. Sort of. It starts usually from 9 until 4 to 5 in the evening. And what most students waiting for are the “IFTOR IS PROVIDED” HAHAHA....
The Ramadhan is just started and it will continue to fly off without we realize. It is the matter of us. Do we want to grab the opportunity or just let Ramadhan flows without anything? At least, we should a change in any aspect (of course, in a better way la). So, hope for this Ramadhan to be better than the past years. And also hope that we could improve ourselves. InsyaAllah...
